Thank You, Veterans: 2015 Veterans Day Events in DC

In our nation's capital, dozens of events are held throughout the city to honor our nation's veterans. 2015 Veterans Day events in Wasington, D.C. will honor and thank the brave veterans through commemoration at our most famous memorials and more. Arlington National Cemetery

At 11 A.M. on Veteran's Day (11/11/2015), at the west end of the Memorial Bridge in Arlington, Va, the wreath-laying ceremony will occur at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The 62nd annual National Veterans Day Observance is free and open to the public. Seating at the Memorial Amphitheater is extremely limited so please arrive early (by 9:30 AM). 

Keep in mind that walking to the Amphitheater is not allowed. You must take a free shuttle from the Welcome Center to the Memorial Amphitheater. Last shuttle on Veterans Day to the Amphitheater will run at 10:15 AM. Shuttles will take visitors back until 2 PM. 

The United States Navy Memorial

At the United States Navy Memorial, the Naval District of Washington will host a special wreath-laying ceremony at the Lone Sailor Statue at 1 PM. The Color Guard and various speakers are expected at this event. 

Located at 701 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, we recommend arriving early to combat congestion and traffic. Street parking will be extremely limited - you can book parking steps away from the memorial here

The World War II Memorial

At 9 AM at the World War II Memorial, the Veterans Day wreath-laying ceremony will be held. Located in the National Mall, the World War II Memorial is situated between the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial. The memorial is open to the public 24/7 and free guided tours by rangers are available. For more information, visit the National WWII Memorial website. Vietnam Veterans Memorial

At the Vietnam Veterans  Memorial, special events will be help throughout the day. From 9-12 PM and 2-4 PM, the veterans and children of veterans will share stories at the Vietnam Women's Memorial. At 1 PM, the wreath-laying ceremony will thank and honor the veterans of the Vietnam War. 

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is located in the National Mall near the Lincoln Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Best way to get to the memorial is to drive and park nearby or by taking the Metro (Foggy Bottom is the closest station). By driving and parking in a garage, you can park as close as 0.4 mi away. The Foggy Bottom Metro is about 0.6 mi away from the memorial.  

The Newseum

The Newseum will offer free admission to military veterans and active military members. Special exhibits include "Reporting Vietnam" and the 9/11 Gallery. You must present military ID for admission. Open from 9AM - 6 PM each day, the Newseum is located at 555 Pennsylvania Ave NW. Book Newseum parking here
