SHN's two historic San Francisco theatres, the Orpheum and Golden Gate, provide the perfect venues to do just that. We have the inside scoop on some can't miss shows coming up in the next few months.
The Golden Gate Theatre
Kinky Boots: May 11-22
Critically acclaimed "Kinky Boots" is based off of a true story about the unlikely partnership between a prominent shoe factory owner and the vivacious cabaret dancer and drag queen, Lola. The two combine to invent a new series of high heeled boots that turn the shop and even the fashion industry on its head. The music and lyrics were created by Grammy Award winner Cyndi Lauper, and the show won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 2013. Check out a video from the show's closing act "Raise You Up", below:
Cabaret: June 21-July 17
The original production of this show debuted in New York City in 1966, accumulating a massive 1,100 performances before its run finally came to an end. While the show may seem like a classic tale of young love at first glance, it is indeed ripe with political allegory. Set in Berlin in pre-WWII Germany, the story chronicles the fireworks between a young American expatriate and the irresistible Sally Bowles. The production first came to San Francisco in 1968 when it was shown at The Curran Theatre. Don't miss your chance to catch this masterpiece for the limited time that it's back on the West Coast.
The Orpheum Theatre
